Mississippi State University collects demographic data to assist us in our compliance with Federal/State equal
opportunity record keeping and reporting. Your response is voluntary and will not be used in any way to determine
your eligibility for employment. Other information that is collected will be used solely for the purpose of
recruitment and assessing your application for employment. As a part of the recruitment process, Mississippi State
University may conduct criminal background checks and personal information may be obtained from your referees.
If you are successful in obtaining a position at Mississippi State University, your personal information will form a
part of your employment record.

indicated, however failure to provide any of the requested details during our recruitment process might affect our

As a public entity of the State of Mississippi, information shared with us is subject to disclosure under the
Mississippi Public Records Request law, unless specifically exempted. If you choose to share personal information
with us, it may be released if required by the Mississippi Public Records Request Law or in accordance with our
policies, rules or regulations and must be saved for a designated period of time to comply with Mississippi State
University's record retention policies. We will not sell information to commercial entities.
If an offer of employment is extended, the Department of Human Resources Management will collect social
security numbers in compliance with federal and state laws for payroll and tax reporting and certain benefit

Proof of Identity and Eligibility to Work
Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, Mississippi State University is required to verify the
identity and work authorization of all new employees. As a federal contractor, Mississippi State University also
participates in E-Verify, the federal on-line verification system.
To comply with these requirements, on or before your first day of employment, you must complete Section 1 of
Form I-9. Additionally, you must present documents that verify your identity and work authorization within the
first three business days of your start date. Should you fail to provide the appropriate documentation by the end
of the third business day as required by law; your appointment will be terminated until you can provide such
documentation.
