Privacy Statement for Pepperdine Job Applicants

Pepperdine University ("Pepperdine") values your privacy, and this Privacy Statement for Pepperdine Job Applicants ("Statement") is designed to inform you about the ways Pepperdine will use information gathered about you ("Personal Information") during the job application process.

Please read this Statement carefully.  By continuing with your application, you agree to allow Pepperdine to conduct some, or all pre-employment screening checks as part of our recruitment process.   Use of the Pepperdine web site is also governed by Pepperdine's Privacy and Terms of Use Policies.

 

General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") Consent

The purpose of the GDPR is to protect all European Union ("EU") citizens from privacy and data breaches by allowing citizens to maintain control of the personal data kept and processed by organizations, which includes Pepperdine University. The GDPR also protects the personal data of individuals, regardless of citizenry, in the EU. The GDPR requires that consent to process personal data must be freely given in an intelligible and easily accessible form, using clear and plain language.

Before applying for a job at Pepperdine University, all applicants, including EU citizens and other individuals in the EU, must provide consent to Pepperdine University to process personal information by reading and agreeing to this privacy statement. You may withdraw your consent at any time. If you do decide to withdraw consent at a later date, your withdrawal will not change the fact that your data has been processed legally up to that point.

 

Collection and Use of Your Information

Pepperdine collects and uses Personal Information about you in relation to your application for employment.  When submitting an application for employment with Pepperdine, we may conduct some or all of the following pre-employment screening checks:

  • Confirmation of education and/or previous employment

  • Reference checks of those individuals you provide

  • Confirmation of professional memberships

  • Current and/or previous affiliations with Pepperdine

In the event a job offer is extended, and relevant to the particular position, Pepperdine may conduct some, or all of the following pre-employment screening checks:

  • Criminal history

  • Credit history

  • Motor Vehicle Report

  • Pre-Employment Physical

  • Drug and Alcohol Screening

Your Personal Information is used to assess your qualifications for the job/s you submitted your application.  The information may also be used to assess your qualifications for other roles at the Pepperdine.

If Pepperdine does not employ you based upon the results of a pre-employment screening check, we will give you the name, address, and phone number of the consumer reporting agency that provided the adverse information.

If you are offered and accept employment at Pepperdine, the information collected during the job application process with become part of your employment record and will be retained and used for employment purposes.  Employees may be terminated if inaccuracies or untruthful information is subsequently discovered in an employee's application materials.

Access to your information will be restricted to Pepperdine and PageUp employees, as well as other designated agents, including but not limited to companies performing pre-employment screening checks on behalf of Pepperdine, who need to have access to such information in order to carry out their responsibilities with regard to the recruitment process. Your information may also be disclosed if required by law.

 

Data Quality

You may access your account at any time to update your profile and/or resume thereby ensuring the information Pepperdine holds about you is complete, accurate and up to date.

 

Access and Correction

It is your responsibility to keep your login and password details private to prevent unauthorized access.  You may access your account to update, create new applications and activate or deactivate your registration for job mail at any time.  Should you wish to remove your account, please contact a member of our Human Resources team at 310-506-4397.

 

Storage

For job applicants who were not employed by Pepperdine, application materials are retained for two years after the application date.  For job applicants that were employed by Pepperdine, application materials are retained for seven years after the last date of employment.

This online recruitment service is powered by PageUp. When you submit your online job application, some of your personal information may be stored on the PageUp database. PageUp must meet stringent privacy obligations with regard to access, storage and handling of your Personal information.
