Privacy and Florida Public Records
The privacy of applicants is important to us. We take precaution to protect your personal information. This information is being collected solely for the purpose of recruitment and assessing your application for employment. As a part of the recruitment process, The University of Florida may conduct criminal background checks and personal information may be obtained from your referees. If you are successful in obtaining a position, your personal information will form part of your employment record.
In submitting your application, you are consenting to us collecting and using this information for the purposes as indicated, however failure to provide any of the requested details during our recruitment process might affect our ability to assess or further progress your application.
As an agency of the State of Florida, information shared with us is subject to disclosure under the Florida Public Records laws, unless specifically exempted. If you choose to share personal information with us, it may be released if required by the Florida Public Records Laws or in accordance with our policies, rules or regulations and must be saved for a designated period of time to comply with Florida's record retention policies. We will not sell information to commercial entities.
Please be advised that under Florida law, job applications and e-mail addresses are public records. If you do not want your information released in response to a public records request, do not submit an application for employment.
If an offer of employment is extended, Human Resource Services will collect social security numbers in compliance with federal and state laws for payroll and tax reporting and certain benefit providers. For information, please visit the Social Security Number Privacy website.
Proof of Identity and Eligibility to Work
Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, the University of Florida is required to verify the identity and work authorization of all new employees. As a federal contractor, the University of Florida also participates in E-Verify, the federal on-line verification system.
To comply with these requirements, on or before your first day of employment, you must complete Section 1 of Form I-9. Additionally, you must present documents that verify your identity and work authorization within the first three business days of your start date. Should you fail to provide the appropriate documentation by the end of the third business day as required by law; your appointment will be terminated until you can provide such documentation.
